Dream Big
Their
Story
They live in one of the poorest places in South America. They are made fun of by other people in their own country because their job is to pick though garbage and salvage items that might have value. They make money for food and clothing by salvaging garbage. Yet...look at the smiles on their faces! Listen to the pride that the dad and the grandma in the video above speak about when they talk about how exciting it is that their children are playing in the orchestra! Listen to them speak about how much they value hard work and commitment.
Money would make their lives easier and much more healthy, but they have found joy in each other. A big part of that joy comes from making music together and sharing something beautiful that money can't buy.
"The world sends us garbage.
We send back music."
-Favio Chavez,
Orchestra Director
Inspiration
I get goose bumps every time I listen to the story of the recycled orchestra!

I love the ingenuity, persistence, and working together that the children and the adults in the village have shown the world!

I am also fascinated by the items that their instruments are made out of...take a look below and see what items you can recognize.

Storytelling
Imagine you were in the recycled orchestra!
What instrument would you choose to play?
What would you use to make the instrument?
How would you describe your experience traveling the world and seeing other cultures that are very different that yous?
